So you have added a new furry member to your family, and just like a newborn baby, puppies need regular veterinary visits frequently.  We suggest to start bringing your puppies in at 2 to 3 weeks of age for their first health checks and deworming.  We will then start puppy vaccinations at about 6 to 8 weeks of age, flea preventive treatments, and heartworm.  We will be happy to provide advice for training and behavioral actions and continuation for exam schedule to make sure your new little one receives the right protection and appropriate advice.

Puppies should be vaccinated about every 2 to 3 weeks until 4 months old.  This will effectively stimulate the puppy’s immune system.  Depending on the breed of dog, or any early triggers we may see, we may recommend a wellness program, including blood work and continuous monitoring for early signs of kidney or liver diseases.

Worms are very common in young dogs and puppies.  Through fecal examinations, every 2 to 4 weeks and a broad-spectrum wormer is standard for most puppies.  We will continue testing your dog’s fecal matter until 2 successful fecal exams turn up negative.

Dogs need attention to their teeth from the very beginning.  By feeding your puppy fry food, proper toys, and regular teeth cleaning will ensure strong and healthy teeth from an early age.

The earliest training that your puppy must learn is housetraining. With patience, persistence, and consistency, housetraining usually takes only a few weeks.

If you have questions concerning any subject related to your puppy’s health, please don’t hesitate to give us a call so we can set an appointment to review what is best for your puppy.
